A happy homeowner credits a Longevity Door
I’d like to tell you about my door from Somerset Door & Column. It is a basement door that has no overhang and faces West. The area stays wet all the time and gets pounded by rain and snow, with snow piling up several inches against the door. We wanted a wood door but were concerned about durability with the harsh conditions it would face.
My daughter was in and out of this basement door from the outside. She noticed the drain screen wasn’t seated on the drain so she being a good daughter decided to fix that. Unbeknownst to her, that was intentional due to fall leaves covering the drainage holes and creating a mini-pool in the stairwell. So the next time we had a heavy rainstorm, the drain outside the door was clogged with leaves and the water pooled about 18″ deep. We did get a bit of water that came around the weather strip and through the panel into the basement. Our basement isn’t finished so it was not a big deal but the door didn’t swell or move at all.
My daughter thought that putting the drain cover on the drain at the bottom of the stairwell was a good idea.
Nearly five years later, the door still looks the same as the day it was put in, with the exception of maybe needing some touch up painting. There is no rot or joint failure.
You can see the drain fitting to the left of the door handle. My wife knows not to put it over the drain and my daughter has since moved out. The Longevity Door surpassed our expectations.
